    Québec Prime Minister Message
    I am pleased to welcome the athletes come to compete in the World Taekwon-Do ITF 2007 Championship, as well as their coaches and entourage. Québec is proud to host this international championship which brings together for the first time ever some 1000 junior- and senior-level athletes from 70 countries, a competition worthy of this martial art that combines technique, discipline and respect. On behalf of the Government of Québec, I salute the work of the organizers, managers and partners of this great meeting of champions, the biggest competition in the entire history of the International Taekwon-Do Federation. Best of luck to every athlete. I hope that all of you have an excellent tournament and a pleasant stay in our capital city!

    Jean Charest

    Mr. Dick Evans - Alcan CEO - Honorary president Message
    On behalf of Alcan Inc. and our 68,000 employees around the world, I am delighted to welcome participants in the 2007 ITF-Alcan World Taekwon-Do Championships to Canada and Québec. As I learn more about Taekwon-Do, I can see the parallels between how you pursue this modern martial art and how we pursue our business. The tenets of Taekwon-Do are integrity, indomitable spirit, and perseverance. These are characteristics we value highly at Alcan and strive to put into practice every day in our decisions and actions. Taekwon-Do has been described as “in a state of continuous evolution, open to changes that will improve its effectiveness.” This is an apt description of how we view our company. You practice Taekwon-Do for health and safety. The health and safety of our employees is our top priority at Alcan. This alignment in our mutual philosophies is one of the many reasons we are proud to support the International Taekwon-Do Federation in staging these Championships. International competition, whether in the marketplace or in the martial arts, is exhilarating, enriching, and educational. We wish you a rewarding experience, both competitively and personally, in the province Alcan calls home.

    Dick Evans
    President and Chief Executive Officer Alcan Inc.

    Master Tran Trieu Quan`s Message
    On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the Rendez-vous of Champions – Québec 2007, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Québec City for the VIIIth Junior and the XVth Senior ITF Taekwon-Do Championships! The Organizing Committee had three objectives for this event;
  • to have an outstanding tournament,
  • to use this event to raise awareness of the ITF and Taekwon-Do around the world,
  • to make this event an unprecedented gathering of the worldwide ITF family.

    Everything is organized to achieve all three objectives, and we are sure that Québec 2007 will be a resounding success. To accomplish our second objective, we have been carrying out a publicity campaign. For example, at the beginning of May publicity for the World Championship was posted on giant billboards located in strategic locations around the City of Québec. Local media coverage has started and will continue throughout the event. So everyone knows about our World Championship and they are ready to welcome you to our city. I am sure that all you competitors are very excited that, for the first time in international competition, your family and friends back home will be able to watch you in action, through our daily live Webcasts from all seven rings. The best performances from the competitions will be included in three thirty-minute video programs that our National Governing Bodies will be able to use to promote Taekwon-Do in their home countries. A short documentary about ITF Taekwon-Do will also include footage of competitors in action; it will be available on DVD after the event. Other innovations include:
  • the 1st ITF Hall of Fame dinner,
  • the selection of the ITF demonstration team,
  • a mass practice in the National Battlefields Park,
  • a historic photograph of all the TKD practitioners at the Opening Ceremony.

    We are counting on your participation in these events. Even if you are not a competitor, bring also your dobok and join us for the mass practice and the group photograph. You will be contributing to the success of the whole event. The Organizing Committee would like to express our thanks to each one of our sponsors. We have received significant funding from the Quebec Ministry of Education, Leisure, and Sports and from Alcan Inc., but there are many others who have offered their support by supplying goods and services or by making cash donations. All contributions are very much appreciated. And we must not forget all our volunteers who have worked so hard to prepare this event and to make your time with us memorable. I send to each one of you – competitors, coaches, officials, and suppporters – my best wishes for a fantastic competition and trust you will enjoy your stay in Québec City.

    Master Trân Triêu Quân
    Chairman of the Organizing Committee
